GOLDEN KNIGHTS SEASON ENDS IN A TIGHT NE-10 QUARTERFINAL SETBACK AT LE MOYNE


SYRACUSE–The College of Saint Rose had its run to a Northeast-10 Conference Championship come to a close with tonight's tight 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23) quarterfinal setback at Le Moyne.
 
The fourth-seed Dolphins (20-7) will now face top-seed and host Adelphi in a Friday semifinal on Long Island. The Panthers advanced with tonight's 3-1 triumph over eighth-seed Southern New Hampshire.
 
Junior middle hitter Maryellen Devic recorded 13 kills and a season-high 27 digs to lead the Golden Knights (12-12). Senior right side hitter Carissa Dube put down 11 kills with only three errors throughout 23 swings, while junior outside hitter Rachel Salasky added nine kills. Furthermore, freshman setter Sam Kubik and junior setter Erica Ziskin directed the offense by passing around a collective 42 assists.
 
Defensively, junior middle hitter Jennifer Gundrum played a role in five blocks, while junior libero Samantha Atchinson denied 17 Le Moyne attack attempts.
 
For the Dolphins, freshman right side hitter Jessica Miller recorded a staggering .613 hitting percentage on the strength of 21 kills and two errors throughout 31 attack attempts.
 
The fifth-seed Golden Knights got to off to a strong start by taking the opening set, but the Dolphins bounced back by winning the final three sets by a mere combined 14 points.
 
Saint Rose rallied from 7-2 and 23-22 deficits in the opener when Salasky recorded three consecutive kills to cap the win. In the second, Le Moyne got even by closing it out on a 13-6 run on the heels of a 12-12 deadlock. The Dolphins then used an 8-1 spurt in the third that transformed a 10-10 tie into an 18-11 advantage and after Saint Rose cut a 24-21 deficit to 24-23 in the fourth, Miller appropriately brought an end to the evening with her final kill.
