GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPEND BENTLEY IN FOUR SETS

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose handed visiting Bentley only its third Northeast-10 Conference loss of the year with tonight's 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17) triumph.

The Golden Knights (9-10/5-5 NE-10), who have now won three of their last four, took the opening two sets by a collective five points and then rebounded from a third-set defeat with a 25-17 win in the fourth.

Saint Rose used an 11-5 jaunt in the decisive set that transformed a 6-5 lead into a 17-10 cushion. The Falcons (15-8/8-3 NE-10) never got to closer than five points the rest of the way. The Golden Knights scored the last three points of the first set when it was deadlocked 22-22 to afford themselves some momentum and led by at least three from the 12th point on in the second.

Junior outside hitter Rachel Salasky put away a pass from junior setter Erica Ziskin to cap the opener and junior middle hitter Maryellen Devic buried a feed from freshman setter Sam Kubik to put the finishes touches on the second.

Devic recorded 15 kills and a team-high 17 digs, while Salasky and senior right side hitter Carissa Dube finished with 12 and 11 respectively. Freshman middle hitter Shayna Webber registered a staggering .562 hitting percentage on the strength of nine kills without an error throughout 16 swings.

Also, junior middle hitter Jennifer Gundrum came up with nine block assists while Kubik and Ziskin combined for 46 assists.

Senior outside hitter Jaci Buscher and sophomore outside hitter Shannon Kelley had 12 and 11 kills respectively, while senior libero Jessica Segal came up with a match-high 27 digs out of the back for Bentley.

Looking ahead, both teams are back in action tomorrow. Saint Rose will host Stonehill at 1:00 pm, while Bentley will head west on the thruway for a 12:00 pm date at Le Moyne.
