SAINT ROSE WINS THIRD STRAIGHT TO SECURE BEST EVER NE-10 FINISH

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose ran its win streak to three matches with tonight's key 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory against visiting Saint Michael's.

In the process, the Golden Knights (8-6-1/7-4-1 NE-10) assured themselves of their first winning conference record throughout their 16-year NE-10 tenure. They also solidified a berth in the NE-10 Championship that gets underway next Tuesday.

Sophomore forward Romaine Williamson finished a pair of breakaways to spearhead the Saint Rose offense. Senior midfielder Marco Pavlin sprung Williamson in the 15th minute to put the Golden Knights up 1-0 and sophomore back Nathan Brown delivered a long through ball that Williamson ran onto in space and finished for the game-winner in the 81st.

Senior keeper Colan Balkwell came up with three saves between the Saint Rose posts, while sophomore Daniel du Feu recorded a pair for Saint Michael's.

The match was fairly evenly played as each side manufactured four shots-on-goal and seven corner kicks. However, the Purple Knights (8-7-1/5-6-1 NE-10) dictated the pace early on by generating the first four shots, before Williamson found the back of the net on the Golden Knights initial strike.

Saint Michael's drew even just before halftime when senior midfielder O.J. Rivas finished a through ball that was delivered by junior forward Aaron DaCosta to make it a 1-1 affair at the break. Williamson then provided the difference with his team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Both sides are now scheduled to play their regular-season finales on Friday. Saint Rose has a 7:00 pm meeting at Adelphi on Long Island, while Saint Michael's has a 3:00 pm home date with Merrimack.
