GOLDEN KNIGHTS BOUNCE BACK TO DEFEAT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE


MANCHESTER, NH–The College of Saint Rose won three consecutive sets after dropping the opener to upend host Northeast1-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-22, 26-24) today.
 
Junior middle hitter Maryellen Devic recorded 16 kills, 16 digs, and six aces while junior outside hitter Rachel Salasky contributed nine kills on the offensive side  for the Golden Knights (8-10/4-5 NE-10). Also, freshman middle hitter Shayna Webber put away five kills without an error throughout seven swings and came up with three blocks.
 
Junior libero Samantha Atchinson registered 31 digs in the back while junior setter Erica Ziskin and freshman setter Sam Kubik dished out 22 and 18 assists respectively.
 
After the first set, Saint Rose clicked on all cylinders throughout the next two when the Golden Knights manufactured a collective .328 hitting percentage on 27 kills and only seven errors.
 
They then opened up a 23-20 lead in the fourth, but the Penmen (9-12/4-5 NE-10) rallied to tie it at points 23 and 24. Salasky then recorded an ace that preceded a Southern New Hampshire attack error to allow the Golden Knights to chalk up the victory.
 
Sophomore middle hitter Marisa Cornois put away 14 kills on only three errors and junior middle hitter Megan Salamun added 10 kills to pace the Penmen.
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is home next weekend for a pair of conference matches. The Golden Knights will host Bentley on Friday at 7:00 pm and then Stonehill on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Both of those contests are scheduled to be streamed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, Southern New Hampshire has a 7:00 pm NE-10 meeting at New Haven on Friday.
