SAINT ROSE WORKS OVERTIME TO UPEND FRANKLIN PIERCE

RINDGE, NH-Sophomore forward Romaine Williamson knocked home a rebound less than four minutes into overtime to lift The College of Saint Rose to a 3-2 triumph at Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce tonight.

Senior midfielder Marco Pavlin drove a shot from the top of the area that Franklin Pierce (4-8-3/2-6-3 NE-10) sophomore keeper Jordan LeGuyader could only deflect. The subsequent ricochet fell at the foot of Williamson who booted it into the empty net for his third game-winning goal of the year.

The Golden Knights appeared to be in good shape with a 2-1 lead and the clock winding down, but Ravens senior midfielder Lorris Cortijo sailed a volley inside the left post with a mere 1:17 remaining to bring about the extra period.

Pavlin and freshman forward Ryan Rooney also scored for the Golden Knights (7-6-1/6-4-1 NE-10) who have won three of their last four and are 5-2 on the road this autumn. Between the posts, senior keeper Colan Balkwell recorded three of his four saves throughout the second half.

Senior midfielder David Magee accounted for the other Franklin Pierce strike.

Each side scored in both halves although the Ravens never led. The first goal was similar to the finale, but this time it was a Williamson rebound that Pavlin knocked in for the initial Saint Rose lead with 17:14 expired. Five minutes later, Magee finished a cross from senior midfielder George Levantaksis to deadlock the match at intermission.

In the second period, Rooney and junior midfielder Nick Menozzi worked a give-and-go that the former capitalized on at the 73:06 mark for what appeared to be the decisive strike until Cortijo came through for the Ravens.

Looking ahead, both sides return to the pitch Tuesday for key conference matches. Saint Rose will host Saint Michael's at 5:30 pm, while Franklin Pierce will travel to Syracuse for a 3:00 pm meeting at Le Moyne. The Golden Knights contest is scheduled to be streamed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv.
