SAINT ROSE SWEEPS NEW HAVEN

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose recorded ten service aces and did not surrender any en route to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-22) victory against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven tonight.

Junior middle hitter Maryellen Devic registered her eighth straight double-double as the Golden Knights (7-9/3-4 NE-10) improved to 3-2 in three-set matches this fall. Devic finished with 12 kills and 10 digs while junior libero Samantha Atchinson came up with a match-high 18 digs.

Furthermore, junior setter Erica Ziskin passed around 17 assists while freshman setter Sam Kubik handed out 10 assists herself. Sophomore middle hitter Maddy Halverson accounted for four of the team's 10 aces.

Saint Rose got off to a fast start. The Golden Knights jumped out to an 11-6 lead and then scored six of the final seven points to take the opening set 25-19. They then took off on a 10-3 spurt in the second set that transformed a 9-7 lead into a 19-10 cushion. A kill by junior right side hitter Jennifer Gundrum ignited the run and a Halverson ace capped it. In the third, Saint Rose rallied from a 13-9 deficit to tie it at 18-18. Senior right side hitter Carissa Dube then put down a Kubik pass and the Golden Knights never trailed again.

On the other side, junior outside hitter Meghan Kennelly recorded 10 kills and 15 digs for the Chargers (11-10/3-2 NE-10) who entered the evening having won three of their last four matches.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back on the road this weekend with a 7:00 pm match at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH on Friday followed by a 1:00 pm date at Southern New Hampshire in Manchester on Saturday. Meanwhile, New Haven has road matches at Saint Michael's and Saint Anselm on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
