ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose scored three times in the opening 17 minutes and never looked back on the way to a 6-0 victory against visiting
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm tonight. In the process, the Golden Knights avenged their lone setback from a year ago.
Â
Saint Rose again had a balanced attack with six different players accounting for each of the strikes. However, sophomore forward
Morgan Burchhardt stood out by tying a single-game school record with four assists.
Â
Freshman midfielder
Danae Kaldaridou set the tone when she headed home a Burchhardt corner with a mere 7:12 elapsed. Four minutes later, Burchhardt drove a shot off the right post that ricocheted to senior back
Nicole Shively who subsequently one-timed it under the crossbar. Senior midfielder
Gianna Smith made it 3-0 when she finished a deflection with 16:42 gone by.
Â
Junior forward
Kristin Carr and senior midfielder
Michaela Phillips added two more goals four minutes apart to make it a 5-0 game at intermission. Senior midfielder
Silvana Giovannone accounted for the final tally 16 minutes into the second period when she finished a Burchhardt feed amid a scramble in the middle of the area.
Â
Tonight marked the third time this season that the
17th-ranked Golden Knights, who entered the evening with the country's 29th most prolific offense, scored six goals in a game. They also improved to 6-1-1 at home and have now outscored their opponents 40-12 on the year, including 21-4 throughout the first half.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads are back on the pitch Saturday. Saint Rose has a 3:00 pm date at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, while Saint Anselm has an 11:00 am home meeting versus Merrimack.
