SAINT ROSE SUFFERS TIGHT SETBACK AT PACE

PLEASANTVILLE, NY–The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take the third set, but host Pace University maintained its advantage throughout the fourth to upend the Golden Knights 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21) in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight.
 
Junior middle hitter Maryellen Devic, junior outside hitter Rachel Salasky, and junior right side hitter Jennifer Gundrum all recorded double-digit point totals to spearhead the Saint Rose (6-9/2-4 NE-10) attack.
 
Devic registered her seventh consecutive double-double with team highs of 15 kills and 17 digs while Salasky put away 13 kills. Gundrum wound up with nine kills and a pair of block assists. In the back, junior libero Samantha Atchinson came up with 15 digs while the setting duo of junior Erica Ziskin and freshman Sam Kubik passed around 18 assists apiece.
 
The Setters (10-13/2-3 NE-10) put themselves in control down the stretch of the second set when they reeled off five of the final seven points that transformed a 20-20 deadlock into a 25-22 win and a commanding 2-0 set lead. They subsequently never trailed throughout the fourth set after the Golden Knights manufactured a 9-1 run in the middle of the third to avoid the sweep.
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Tuesday to face league rival New Haven at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Setters are off until next Friday when they travel to Stonehill for a 7:00 pm NE-10 match in North Easton, MA.
