GOLDEN KNIGHTS KNIGHTS OPEN SEASON WITH TWO SETBACKS

FLORENCE, SC–The College of Saint Rose suffered a pair of losses during the first day of action at the Carolinas Hospital System Baseball Classic that is being hosted by Francis Marion University. The host Patriots scored nine times in the eighth inning to upend the Golden Knights 10-3 this evening, while Pfeiffer (1-0) pushed across three runs during the final three frames to hand Saint Rose a 6-3 setback in today's opener.

Against Francis Marion (1-1), the Golden Knights (0-2) scored two unearned runs in the fifth and then junior outfielder Derek Reed doubled to make it 3-1 in the seventh, before the Patriots rallied.

Junior left-hander Joe Pokrentowski and sophomore right-hander Austin Von Herbulis both had solid outings. Pokrentowski allowed an unearned run on three hits throughout 4.0 innings, while Von Herbulis surrendered just one hit in 3.0 innings of action in his Saint Rose debut. Senior designated hitter Lukas Nethaway and senior first baseman Zac Bellinger both doubled for the Golden Knights. Senior first baseman Connor Wessel went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs for Francis Marion.

In today's opener, sophomore shortstop Tyler Ungerland put Saint Rose up 2-0 in the first when he lined a two-run double down the left field line that scored Bellinger and Nethaway.

However, the Falcons kept Saint Rose off the scoreboard until the ninth when junior pinch hitter Patrick Griffin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Pfeiffer then retired the next Saint Rose batter for the game's final out.

Bellinger and Reed had two hits apiece to lead the Saint Rose attack. Senior left fielder Izzy Perez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth to pace Pfeiffer.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are scheduled to close out their stay in South Carolina tomorrow with an 11:00 am game versus Lenoir Rhyne.
