GOLDEN KNIGHTS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN VERSUS SAGE

ALBANY–Freshman Alanna Bergmann recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles that allowed The College of Saint Rose to open the 2014 season with a 5-4 victory versus neighbor Sage College Saturday afternoon.
 
Bergman broke the tie as she defeated Alex Faas at No. 5 singles.
 
Saint Rose did not waste any time in doubles as it secured the point with ease, claiming the first and second slots. Juniors Isabela Cubillos and Paige Southwick combined at No. 1 for an 8-4 win against Kirsten Ackerman and Lauren Bendall. Senior Megan Stacklum and Bermann joined together for an 8-3 win over Erin Duffy and Katie Schultz at No. 2.
 
The Gators picked up the pace in singles as Ackerman defeated Cubillos 6-1, 6-1, followed by Southwhick putting Saint Rose back on track with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at second singles.
 
Stacklum fell 7-6, 6-1 in the third flight, but freshman KeriAnn Mahoney put the Golden Knights back on top with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Bendall at fourth singles.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back in action at 2:00 pm tomorrow with a trip to North Andover, MA to take on Merrimack for its Northeast-10 Conference opener. Meanwhile, the Gators have at 3:30 pm date Monday at Western New England.
