GOLDEN KNIGHTS ANTICIPATING EXCITING 2014 SEASON

ALBANY – Following its third straight top-five Northeast-10 Conference finish, The College of Saint Rose sets its sights high for the 2014 season with hopes of returning to the league championship, and improving upon last season's success.

Saint Rose open its 25-match schedule on Saturday, September 6 with a pair of contests at the Dowling Tournament (being held at Molloy College, Rockville Centre N.Y.), first facing NYIT at 3:00 pm and later meeting with the host Golden Lions at 5:00 pm.

Under the direction of 16th year head coach Brian Goodale, the Golden Knights return 10 letterwinners and welcome three freshmen.

Last season, Saint Rose put up an impressive 19-5 overall mark, 11-3 in the NE-10, after falling in the fifth set of the Conference Championship quarterfinal match to Merrimack. The Golden Knights finished second in the regular season standings, two slots higher than preseason polls predicted.

Senior libero Katy Daniels and sophomore middle hitter Maryellen Devic brought in two of the team's three All-Conference honors with second and third-team recognition, respectively. Alex Gagliano ('13) collected first-team laurels.

Daniels also picked up NE-10 All-Academic honors, along with 12 members of the squad earning spots on the Commissioner's Honor Roll for both the fall and spring semesters. Devic was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) East Region Freshman of the Year, and picked up a slot on the conference All-Rookie squad.

The AVCA also recognized the Golden Knights with their fourth straight team academic award after establishing a 3.62 team grade-point-average for the fall 2013 semester.

Junior outside hitter Kelsey Lace led the 2013 squad in kills (221) and kills per-set (2.57), and finished in the top-10 in the NE-10 in aces per-set (0.38) and points per-set (3.24). She picked up league weekly honor roll accolades three times throughout the season.

At setter, junior Tori Daniels and senior Ariana Wilson dished out a combined 787 assists. Daniels also dug up 2.03 digs per set, and led the team with eight double-doubles. The South Hadley, Mass. native served a team-high 39 aces to finish second in the NE-10 in aces per-set (0.43).

Carissa Dube proved to be a strong force on the right side, ranking third on the team in kills per set with 2.14 while putting up 75 blocks last season. Her 0.83 blocks per-set average ranked seventh in the NE-10.

Daniels (Katy) held down the defense after amassing 467 digs last season for a 5.25 digs per-set average, ranking second in the league and 34th in the nation. Her efforts led to a share of NE-10 Co-Libero of the Year honors alongside Franklin Pierce's Lauren Miller.
