DOMINANT FIRST HALF PROPELS TOP-RANKED GOLDEN KNIGHTS

PLEASANTVILLE, NY-The College of Saint Rose put itself in the catbird seat with a dominating first half that propelled the top-ranked Golden Knights to a 4-1 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace earlier today. Six different players figured in the scoring column for Saint Rose (8-0-1/4-0-1 NE-10), which registered all of its strikes in the opening 45 minutes. The Setters (3-6/2-4 NE-10) spoiled the shutout with a goal in the 61st minute.

One of the nation's top-two goal scorers according to the most recent NCAA Division II statistical report, senior forward Carmelina Puopolo recorded her fourth multi-goal game of the year to lead Saint Rose. Freshman forward Morgan Burchhardt had a goal and an assist while senior back Jourdan Thompson accounted for the final tally. Furthermore, junior midfielder Gianna Smith and senior back La'Quilla Upton each had an assist.

Additionally, sophomore keeper Ashley Homer made a save in each half, while surrendering only her second strike throughout 850 minutes that span all nine contests this fall. Freshmen Aisha Chauhan and Lauren DeSousa made four saves collectively for Pace.

Puopolo scored the game's first goal when she redirected home a cross from Smith with 11:03 gone by. Twelve minutes later, Burchhardt notched her third-game winner of the year with a header off a Busk cross. Burchhardt then set up Puopolo at the 28:20 mark, before Thompson got her foot on a loose ball in the area following a corner kick. Senior midfielder Jillian Ferro scored for Pace following a scramble in front of the net.

Up next, Saint Rose returns home Saturday for a 1:00 pm match versus NE-10 rival Saint Michael's. The Setters are also home Saturday with a 3:30 pm conference date versus Bentley.
