TOP RANKED SAINT ROSE POSTS EIGHTH SHUTOUT

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose scored once in each half to upend Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's 2-0 on a rain soaked Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex this afternoon. In the process, the top-ranked Golden Knights (9-0-1/5-0-1 NE-10) recorded their eighth shutout of the year.

Junior midfielder Silvana Giovannone set up the game-winner and added the insurance marker to spearhead the Saint Rose attack. Senior midfielder Meeghan Arno put the Golden Knights on the board when she headed home a Giovannone cross with 24:23 expired. Giovannone then made it 2-0 when she knocked home a loose ball in the area at the 56:05 juncture.

Sophomore keeper Ashley Homer tied her season-high with four saves, while senior keeper Aubrey Ouellet made a pair of stops for the Purple Knights (3-6-1/2-4-1 NE-10).

Saint Rose nearly put itself up early when senior back Jourdan Thompson came forward for a corner and subsequently got in the air to head a deflected ball off the crossbar four minutes in. However, Arno rendered the opportunity moot 20 minutes later when she tallied her second goal of the season.

Thompson was also a key factor defensively. The All-American, along with fellow senior back La'Quilla Upton and junior back Nicole Shively, limited Saint Michael's to few clear scoring opportunities while lowering their nation's second stingiest goals-against-average to 0.19.

Going forward, the Golden Knights return home next Tuesday, October 7, with a 5:30 pm date versus conference rival American International. That contest is scheduled to be streamed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, the Purple Knights are also home that afternoon with a 3:30 pm meeting versus NE-10 foe Franklin Pierce.
