ADELPHI COMES BACK TO UPEND SAINT ROSE

ALBANY–Adelphi scored twice within a 23 second stretch midway through the second half en route to a 2-1 come-from-behind win versus The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

After a relatively deliberate opening 45 minutes, the pace picked up decidedly in the second period with the two sides manufacturing 15 of their 20 combined shots during that span. The Panthers finished with a 12-8 shot advantage and also engineered a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore midfielder Caelan Hueber and freshman midfielder Matt Giaconelli scored for the Panthers (5-3/3-2 NE-1) who improved to 3-1 on the road this autumn. Meanwhile, freshman midfielder Kledis Capollari struck for his team-leading third goal of the year for the Golden Knights (1-6-1/1-4-0 NE-10).

Between the posts, junior Colan Balkwell recorded two saves for Saint Rose while senior Niskayuna native Ahmad Salamah turned aside one threat-on-target.

Saint Rose took advantage of a rare first half opportunity with 13:20 gone by when junior midfielder Pablo Lajeunesse distributed a ball to Capollari who settled the feed in the area before firing a volley into the lower left corner.

However, Adelphi quickly turned the tide in the 63rd minute when Hueber finished a feed from senior forward Diego Zuniga and Giaconelli converted a pass from junior midfielder Chris Joseph for his first collegiate marker.

Going forward, both sides return to the pitch for NE-10 contests Saturday. Saint Rose travels to #19 Merrimack for a 7:00 pm meeting in North Andover, MA; while the Panthers have a 3:00 pm home date versus Saint Anselm on Long Island.
