TWO SECOND HALF GOALS LEAD #19 MERRIMACK PAST GOLDEN KNIGHTS

NORTH ANDOVER, MA–The College of Saint Rose kept 19th ranked and Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack off the scoreboard for 63 minutes, but the host Warriors finally broke through in the 64th minute and added another in the 86th to upend the Golden Knights 2-0 this evening. Merrimack finished with a 16-1 shot advantage and developed 10 corner kicks, while yielding only three.

Junior keeper Colan Balkwell made a pair of saves in each half and junior back Pablo Lajeunesse accounted for the lone Saint Rose (1-7-1/1-5-0 NE-10) shot.

Sophomore forward Jaime Cortes Torres had a goal and assist and freshman midfielder Michael Dushman scored the game-winner for Merrimack (7-1-1/3-1-1 NE-10), which ran its home record to 5-0 on the year.

Two minutes after he hit the crossbar, Dushman converted the Warriors ninth shot of the contest when he slipped a ball inside into the upper left corner from 20-yards out. Torres then finished a feed from freshman back Josue Ruiz Maya while standing deep inside the area.

Looking ahead, both teams have 7:00 pm dates this Wednesday, October 8. The Golden Knights return home to face Roberts Wesleyan in a non-league encounter, while the Warriors have a meeting at top-ranked and defending national champion Southern New Hampshire.
