DEVIC LEADS SAINT ROSE TO WIN AT MERCY

Box Score
DOBBS FERRY, NY–Sophomore middle hitter Maryellen Devic recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs to pace The College of Saint Rose to a 3-1 (25-15, 14-25, 25-16, 25-22) win at Mercy College Tuesday evening.

Saint Rose (3-2), which has now won three in a row, got things moving in set one as it strung together six points early in the game for a 10-3 lead. Mercy (2-5) was able to put a few more points on the board, but they would not be enough as the Golden Knights went on a seven-point tear to put the Mavericks at an arm's length. Mercy was able to bridge the gap a bit with its own four-point string to make the score 18-12, but Saint Rose kept attacking and took an eventual 25-15 win.

In set two, the Mavericks evened the score as they battled back from a 6-3 deficit early on. They tied the game twice before either team got to 10 points, then put scored four four straight points to take a 13-9 lead. A four and five-point run throughout the remainder of the set allowed Mercy to capture a 25-14 victory, and its lone game of the evening.

Nine ties and three lead changes played the script for the beginning of the third set. The final tie came at 14-14, followed by a five-point Golden Knights run, and another four-point spurt a few points later to close out the set 25-16.

Set four started out similar to its predecessor as the squads tied five times, the final at 11-all, followed by Saint Rose pulling away again, this time in short spurts. The Golden Knights' biggest run would be three in a row, giving them a 17-13 advantage. Both teams chipped away at the board throughout the remainder of the set with Saint Rose taking the 25-22 final.

Junior right side hitter Carissa Dube sat just behind Devic on the attack with nine kills. Setters Tori Daniels and Erica Ziskin dished out 16 assists apiece, and senior libero Katy Daniels posted 20 digs on the evening. From the middle, sophomore Jennifer Gundrum and freshman Maddy Halverson put up four blocks each.

The Golden Knights remain on the road this weekend at the American International Invitational beginning on Friday at 5:30 pm. Meanwhile, Mercy has a 7:00 pm home date with LIU Post on Thursday.
