LATE RUN ALLOWS HOLY FAMILY TO GET PAST GOLDEN KNIGHTS

PHILADELPHIA-Holy Family erased a 14 point deficit with six minutes to go to hand The College of Saint Rose a 65-62 heartbreaking loss during the second day of the East Region Classic at Philadelphia University this afternoon. The Tigers (8-3) outscored the Golden Knights (5-7) 18-1 throughout the final 6:17 to secure the win.

Freshman guard Jalaun Taylor finished with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists while freshman forward Jack Jones and junior guard Chris Dorgler added 12 and 11 points respectively to lead Saint Rose. Meanwhile, freshman guard Jamaal Greenwood added nine in 26 minutes off the bench.

At the other end, junior guards Reggie Charles and Marvin Crawford finished with 10 points each and three others had nine for a balanced Holy Family attack.

The Golden Knights scored their final field goal when Taylor finished a Weaver feed that made it 61-47. However, two Saint Rose turnovers coupled with a pair of free throws from Charles and junior forward Hunter Wysocki sandwiched around a junior forward Derrick Stewart layup made it a 61-53 ballgame with 5:15 to go.

Wysocki and junior forward Xavier Williams then drained behind back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Golden Knights advantage to a bucket, 61-59, with 3:38 remaining. Stewart and junior guard Turhan Griffin both went 1-for-2 from the stripe to tie it, 61-61, with 2:56 left. Wysocki then added two more free throws to put Holy Family ahead to stay.

The Golden Knights had one last chance out of a timeout with eight seconds remaining, but they could not manufacture a clean look at the hoop.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is off until Saturday, January 3 with a 3:30 pm Northeast-10 Conference date at American International in Springfield. Meanwhile, Holy Family has a 1:00 pm home game with Wilmington on Thursday, December 31.

Host Philadelphia University used a 17-3 run in the opening two minutes of the second half to put itself in control of an eventual 73-62 victory against The College of Saint Rose
