SAINT ROSE CAPTURES 2014 NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIP

WORCESTER, MA–The College of Saint Rose upended Assumption 3-0 in today's Northeast-10 Conference Championship Final to capture its seventh league title in the past eight years. The Golden Knights displayed their depth with a balanced attack and stingy defense throughout the afternoon. Saint Rose put four players in the scoring column and manufactured a 24-10 shot advantage.
 
Junior midfielder Jennifer Busk finished with a goal and an assist; while senior back Jourdan Thompson and junior midfielder Michaela Phillips also scored for the seventh-ranked Golden Knights. Sophomore keeper Ashley Homer recorded four saves for a Saint Rose contingent that shutout each of its three opponents in this year's NE-10 Championship.
 
Thompson, the Tournament Most Valuable Player, put the Golden Knights up 1-0 when she redirected a set piece initiated by Busk with 19:17 gone by. Phillips then made it 2-0 in the opening five minutes of the second half when she corralled a loose ball and drove home a shot from the right side of the area. Busk then deflected home a short corner off the left end line by freshman forward Morgan Burchhardt at the 60:18 mark.
 
Thompson was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Phillips and senior forward Carmelina Puopolo. The latter scored the game-winner in both Tuesday's 2-0 quarterfinal win versus Pace and Friday's 3-0 victory against Adelphi.
