SAINT ROSE HEADED TO LOUISVILLE FOR NATIONAL SEMIFINALS

WEST CHESTER, PA–The College of Saint Rose advanced to its sixth NCAA Tournament National Semifinal within a seven year span behind today's 2-0 victory at West Chester. The Golden Knights (21-1-2) will now play a familiar foe in defending national champion Grand Valley State (MI) in a national semifinal match on Thursday, December 4 in Louisville.
 
Freshman midfielder Roxana Hernandez and senior forward Carmelina Puopolo accounted for the two Saint Rose strikes in the second half. Freshman forward Morgan Burchhardt picked up the assist on Hernandez's game-winner, while junior midfielder Gianna Smith set up Puopolo, who broke her own school record with her 21st strike of the season.
 
Hernandez got the Golden Knights on the scoreboard when she knocked home a corner off the foot of Burchhardt with 48:57 gone by. Puopolo then afforded Saint Rose some breathing room at the 84:28 mark when she drove a low shot past West Chester sophomore keeper Alex Srolis.
 
The Golden Knights controlled the pace of play throughout the first half that led to a 12-1 shot advantage. Hernandez provided the biggest threat when she rattled the crossbar from 20-yards with 22 minutes elapsed.
 
The Golden Knights have now recorded 16 shutouts, including five in the postseason, this autumn and have surrendered a mere nine goals all year. They have furthermore manufactured 210 corner kicks, and have yielded only 64.
