ALBANY–Lone senior Megan Stacklum and freshman Alanna Bergmann aided in a 5-4 win for The College of Saint Rose over Northeast-10 Conference foe American International Wednesday evening on the UAlbany campus.
Stacklum and Bergmann registered an 8-3 score at second doubles, and picked up the second point of the day for Saint Rose (3-11/2-9 NE-10) after AIC was forced to forfeit the No. 3 slot. Juniors Isabela Cubillos and Paige Southwick followed with an 8-5 loss at first doubles.The Yellow Jackets (0-9/0-9 NE-10) were also forced to forfeit a slot in singles, this time at No. 6. Freshman KeriAnn Mahoney and junior Maria Malafronte sealed the win for the Golden Knights with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 wins at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Cubillos put up a strong fight at No. 1, but fell 7-6, 6-2, 10-8. Stacklum was defeated at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0, and Southwick dropped the No. 2 slot 6-3, 6-4.
Saint Rose hits the road this Friday, October 10 for its final regular-season match at conference rival Southern New Hampshire. The contest is set to begin at 3:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets have a 3:00 pm league date tomorrow at Assumption in Worcester, MA.
