GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL 2-1 TO ROBERTS WESLEYAN

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose suffered its sixth one-goal loss of the season with tonight's 2-1 setback to Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference tilt at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Redhawks (7-2-2) rallied from a 1-0 deficit to run their win streak to three matches.

The contest featured plenty of offense with Roberts Wesleyan owning a 22-16 shot advantage and 7-2 corner kick margin.

Junior midfielder Nick Iuorno recorded his third goal of the year for the Golden Knights (1-8-1), while senior forward Michael Cunningham scored his team-leading eighth strike of the season and set up the game-winner for the Redhawks.

Between the posts, sophomore Christian Esposito recorded 10 saves in just his second start this autumn for Saint Rose. Esposito was at his best late when he made two outstanding stops in the final 11 minutes to keep it a one-goal affair. Meanwhile, junior Michael Scavone turned aside five threats-on-target for the Redhawks.

The Golden Knights got off to a good start as Iuorno made it 1-0 with 39:07 elapsed when he jumped on a rebound at the left side of the area and drilled a shot inside the right post. However, Roberts Wesleyan responded with less than two minutes remaining until intermission when freshman midfielder Logan Wood delivered a cross to Cunningham who redirected it top shelf. Cunningham then helped with the game-winner by rolling a pass from the left sideline that senior midfielder Stephen Stewart drove home.

Going forward, both sides return to the pitch for home matches this Saturday. The Golden Knights have a 1:00 pm Northeast-10 Conference date versus Franklin Pierce, while the Redhawks host East Coast Conference rival Daemen at 3:00 pm.
