SAINT ROSE WINS THIRD IN A ROW WITH 3-1 VICTORY OVER AIC

SPRINGFIELD, MA–Sophomore middle hitter Maryellen Devic's fourth double-double of the season propelled The College of Saint Rose to a 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-20, 25-15) victory over American International Sunday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium in Northeast-10 Conference action.

In the first set, the Golden Knights (10-4/3-1 NE-10) built a slow lead before tacking on five points in a row for a 14-9 advantage. Saint Rose held AIC (4-13/0-4 NE-10) at an arm's length up until the 20-15 mark when the Yellow Jackets took a timeout, and slowly battled back to tie the game at 21-21. Both teams remained neck-and-neck through the rest of the set, but a pair of attack errors from AIC following the final tie at 24-all gave Saint Rose the 26-24 win.

The Yellow Jackets got out to a small in lead in the second, and allowed the Golden Knights a chance to take the reigns as four ties would follow, the last coming at 13-13, but AIC used a pair of three-point runs to ensure the 19-14 advantage. They allowed Saint Rose to grab just six more points throughout the game en route to a 25-20 victory.

Despite the loss in the second, the Golden Knights bounced back in the third. The set started with seven ties and three lead changes before either team reached 10 points. Neither team was able to put more than three points together at a time during the game, but Saint Rose took advantage of five attack errors from AIC to secure the 25-20 win.

Saint Rose used the third set as momentum to hold AIC to a mere 14 points in the fourth. The Golden Knights jumped out to a 10-5 lead, and followed with a 10-point tear for a 22-7 margin. The Yellow Jackets put together a three-point run towards the end of the set, but it would not be enough as Saint Rose claimed the 25-14 mark.
