ALBANY, N.Y.–Four members of The College of Saint Rose recorded double figures Tuesday night en route to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-13) win over Northeast-10 Conference foe and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights (11-4/4-1 NE-10) remained undefeated on their home floor this season, and improved their win-streak to four.
Sophomore middle hitter Maryellen Devic led the attack for the ninth time this season as she knocked down 10 kills and put up four block assists. Senior setters Tori Daniels and sophomore Erica Ziskin came together to dish out 24 assists, and senior libero Katy Daniels registered 12 digs. Freshman middle hitter Maddy Halverson led the team at the net with five block assists.
The match got off to a rocky start as the Dolphins used a three-point run to jump out to a 5-3 lead. Saint Rose followed with a four-point spurt to regain the lead and take a 7-5 advantage. The Golden Knights built on their lead from there with a 4-0 run and three 3-0 runs throughout the remainder of the set to take a 25-20 win.
Saint Rose kept momentum going into the second set, and capitalized on four Le Moyne attack errors and a huge kill from Devic to start off with a 5-0 lead. The Dolphins chipped away at the board, and came within two points at one point, but Saint Rose knocked down a four-point run, and three more shortly after, to take a 16-9 advantage. Le Moyne (5-7/2-3 NE-10) was able to put together similar runs late in the set, but it would not be enough as the Golden Knights came away with the 25-20 victory.
The Dolphins got off to a quick start in the third as they got ahead early in the game. The Golden Knights battled back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game at 7-7, and followed with an 11-point tear for a 16-7 lead. The Dolphins were able to knock down a six-point run to bridge the gap, but Saint Rose came away with the win as Le Moyne committed four attack errors in a row.
The Golden Knights return to Nolan Gymnasium Friday evening for a 7:00 pm meeting with league foe Pace, and again on Saturday at 2:00 pm in a non-conference match with Molloy.
