BALANCED EFFORT LEADS #6 SAINT ROSE PAST HOST NE-10 RIVAL NEW HAVEN

WEST HAVEN, CT–The College of Saint Rose put seven different players in the scoring column and had its most potent offensive output of the year in league play en route to today's 5-1 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven.

Senior forward Carmelina Puopolo scored twice within a 10 minute span to afford the sixth-ranked Golden Knights (14-1-2/10-1-2 NE-10) a 2-0 halftime lead. The two strikes were her 15th and 16th this autumn. The two-time National Player of the Year has now scored 15 goals in three different seasons.

Furthermore, sophomore forward Sammy Blizzard had a goal and an assist, while freshman forward Morgan Burchhardt set up two of the strikes. Freshman forward Raven Small and junior midfielder Michaela Phillips also scored.

Meanwhile, junior forward Marisa Garcia accounted for the lone New Haven (6-9-1/5-7-1 NE-10) score late in the second half.

Puopolo made it 1-0 with 26:32 elapsed when she finished a pass from junior midfiedler Gianna Smith into the top right corner from the top of the area. She then made it 2-0 by burying a Burchhardt cross. In the second half, Phillips headed home a corner off the foot of junior midfielder Amanda Vasquez at the 74:29 mark. Four minutes later, Burchhardt and junior midfielder Silvana Giovannone set up Blizzard to make it 4-0 Saint Rose.

Garcia then ruined the Golden Knights 11th shutout bid at the 87:17 mark. Small then connected for her first career tally in the final five seconds.

Looking ahead, both teams close out the regular-season portion of their 2014 slates with home matches this Saturday, November 1. The Golden Knights will host Bentley at 2:00 pm for Senior Day, while the Chargers will take on Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 pm.
