AIC DEFEATS GOLDEN KNIGHTS IN OVERTIME


SPRINGFIELD–Host American International rallied from a 2-1 second half deficit and scored the game-winner with 39 seconds left in the first overtime session to upend The College of Saint Rose 3-2 in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight.
 
Junior midfielder Marco Pavlin scored both goals unassisted, while sophomore keeper Christian Esposito recorded four of his five saves in the second half for the Golden Knights (1-11-2/1-8-1 NE-10).
 
Meanwhile, junior forward Ed Sharman delivered the game-winner for the Yellow Jackets (8-7-0/5-6-0 NE-10) with his team-leading eighth goal of the year. He was afforded the opportunity by senior midfielder Greg Smedberg who tied the game 2-2 with 63:59 gone by, just a minute following Pavlin's second strike.
 
American International got off to a quick start as junior midfielder Frazer Cronin made it 1-0 just four minutes in. Pavlin then tied it with 29:41 elapsed and gave Saint Rose a brief 2-1 advantage at the 62:56 mark.
 
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return home Saturday to host conference rival Saint Anselm at 1:00 pm. It will also be Senior Day at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Meanwhile, American International has a 4:00 pm home date Saturday with league foe Merrimack.
