OAKDALE, NY – Starting the 2013 season with a competitive two matches at the Dowling Tournament, The College of Saint Rose split the day with a 3-1 win versus the host Golden Lions followed by a 3-2 defeat to NYIT.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kelsey Lace totaled 27 kills in the two matches while junior setter
Tori Daniels posted a total of 44 assists. Her sister, junior libero
Katy Daniels, went for 27 digs in each match.
During the opening match versus Dowling (2-2), Lace led the team with a .375 hitting percentage behind 14 kills while senior outside hitter
Christina Strezenec accumulated 11 kills. Junior setter
Ariana Wilson and Tori Daniels totaled 44 assists to pace the offense.
Overall in the match, the Golden Knights (2-0) finished with a .234 hitting percentage that included a .361 and a .314 hitting percentage in the second and fourth set srespectively. Furthermore, in the deciding fourth set, Saint Rose rallied from down 23-20 to close out the set and match with five straight points.
By splitting the first four sets in the nightcap with NYIT (2-0), the Golden Knights forced the fifth set behind Lace's 13 kills along with 12 each from sophomore right side hitter
Carissa Dube and freshman middle hitter
Maryellen Devic. However, a 9-4 start to the fifth set allowed NYIT to hold on for a 15-11 set victory.
The Golden Knights open the home slate of their schedule this Tuesday, September 10 as Dominican arrives in Albany for a 7:00 pm non-conference match. Meanwhile, Dowling travels to Adelphi on Tuesday for a 7:00 pm match. NYIT is not back in action until Wednesday, September 11 when it hosts New Haven at 7:00 pm.
