GOLDEN KNIGHTS BALANCED EFFORT KEYS WIN AT ASSUMPTION

Junior libero Katy Daniels set a career-high of 39 digs in tonight's 3-1 win at Assumption.

WORCESTER, MA – An equally balanced performance all around for The College of Saint Rose helped pull out a 3-1 victory at host Assumption earlier tonight during the Northeast-10 Conference opener.
 
Junior libero Katy Daniels registered a career-high 39 digs, which became the most in school annals since former libero Mary German had 44 in a 3-2 win on September 12, 2009 versus Caldwell at the East Stroudsburg Tournament. Junior setter Ariana Wilson passed out 25 assists to go with her four service aces for the Golden Knights (7-1/1-0 NE-10). Senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano and sophomore outside hitters Kelsey Lace and Carissa Dube combined for 31 of the team's 50 kills.
 
Senior outside hitter Mary Johnston controlled a "double-double" of 11 kills and 12 digs to lead the Greyhound (3-7, 0-2 NE-10). Senior setter Kristin Flatekval dished out 27 assists while sophomore libero Courtney Bagwell posted 26 digs.
 
Facing a 20-19 deficit in the first set, Saint Rose rallied for six straight points to pick up a 25-20 victory. Freshman middle hitter Maryellen Devic  highlighted the run with two kills and a block. Freshman middle hitter Jennifer Gundrum also added two blocks during the streak.
 
A .279 hitting percentage and 15 kills by Assumption in the second game, including eight from Johnston, helped start the set with an 11-2 advantage. The Golden Knights pulled within five points at 20-15 as Johnston picked up three kills in the final stages.
 
Saint Rose broke away from a 14-14 tie during the third game with an 11-5 streak to go up 2-1 in the match. Daniels helped control the back line with 10 digs while Lace and Gagliano led the front line with four kills apiece. Gagliano was also a part of all four blocks for the Golden Knights.
 
Early attacking errors by the Greyhounds helped the Golden Knights produce an early 9-1 advantage in the deciding fourth set. Wilson put forth eight assists to help Saint Rose achieve a .406 hitting percentage with just one attacking error. Dube swung for a set-high five kills with six other individuals recording at least one kill.
 
The Golden Knights return home Thursday for a non-conference match against Post at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Assumption travels to West Haven, CT to face league foe New Haven at 7:00 pm on Friday.
