GOLDEN KNIGHTS DEFEAT NYACK FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose grinded out a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-18) victory early tonight against visiting non-conference foe Nyack and in the process won its fourth straight match.
 
Senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano connected for a match-best 11 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. She also added three blocks as the Golden Knights (5-1) accumulated eight on the evening. Freshman middle hitter Maryellen Devic  led the squad with five blocks. Junior setter Tori Daniels helped the Saint Rose effort with a game-high 20 assists, six digs, and two service aces.
 
Sophomore middle hitter Samantha Garza and freshman middle blocker Christy Andrews shared the team-high of eight kills for Nyack (4-7). Senior setter Brianna Kane handed out a match-high 28 assists while senior libero Michelle Makela also had a match-high behind 15 digs.

Four team blocks and three service aces helped Saint Rose edge out the Warriors in the first frame despite Nyack producing more kills and a better hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Carissa Dube joined in on three assists while sophomore middle hitter Kelsey Lace had three kills.
 
Gagliano tallied six of her kills in the second set to help the Golden Knights rally. Facing a 20-17 deficit, Saint Rose stormed back with seven unanswered points to take a 24-20 advantage. The Warriors brought the set back within one point at 24-23, but Gagliano put down the game clinching kill off a pass from Daniels.
 
Gagliano and Devic spearheaded a Saint Rose attack that achieved a .335 hitting percentage in the third set. The duo each totaled four kills as the Golden Knights accumulated 15 in the game. Daniels helped the attack with seven assists while freshman setter Erica Ziskin passed out all six of her assists on the night in the set.
 
The Golden Knights return to action tomorrow evening as they host Caldwell at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Nyack travels to American International in Springfield, MA tomorrow for neutral site matches versus Southern Connecticut State and Stonehill at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm respectively.
