ROCHESTER, NY – The College of Saint Rose started two days at Roberts Wesleyan with a 3-0 sweep of Bloomfield during a non-conference match, the second consecutive sweep for the Golden Knights.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kelsey Lace posted a team-high 12 kills while freshman middle hitter
Maryellen Devic added nine kills and a team-best five blocks. Sophomore setter
Ariana Wilson led the Golden Knights (3-1) with three of its 10 service aces.
Junior outside hitter Deandra Black and freshman middle hitter Erica Griffith shared the team-high of four kills for the Deacons (0-1) in their season-opener. Freshman setter Jacquelyn Madlock contributed 11 assists and 10 digs.
Tied at 14 in the first set, the Golden Knights rallied for five straight points that included two kills by Devic. Lace then closed out the set with two straight kills for the final points.
Saint Rose used large streaks in the final two sets to create separation and close out the victories for the match win. In the final two games, the Golden Knights produced eight service aces and achieved hitting percentages of .310 and .375 respectively. Lace led the team with seven kills in the second set while senior middle hitter
Alex Gagliano swung for five kills in the final frame.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose faces host Roberts Wesleyan at 12:00 pm tomorrow while Bloomfield faces the Redhawks following the match with the Golden Knights. Bloomfield then travels to Le Moyne for match ups against the Dolphins and Ursuline at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm respectively.
