ALBANY – Protecting home court in the first match of the year on the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium floor, The College of Saint Rose swept a non-conference match 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-14) from Dominican College earlier this evening.
Sophomore right side hitter Carissa Dube led the attack for the Golden Knights (2-1) with nine kills and a .750 hitting percentage. Dube also added three blocks as Saint Rose totaled 10 blocks with junior middle hitter Alex Gagliano accumulating eight rejections that included two solo.
The team also manufactured 11 service aces led by four on the part of sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Lace and three by junior setter Tori Daniels. Daniels also led the team with 13 assists.
The Chargers' (0-3) attack was topped with eight kills from freshman outside hitter McKenzie John. Freshman setter Kera Dexter paced the offense with nine assists while sophomore setter Amanda Hallstein added seven.
An early 11-4 lead in the first set grew to a 23-10 advantage after a Daniels' service ace helped the Golden Knights go on to a 25-13 set victory that included four kills by Dube. In the following set, Saint Rose recorded a .320 hitting percentage that included four Ggliano kills. She also added two blocks in the set.
The third set was again featured an efficient offense and defense at the net by Saint Rose. The Golden Knights forced eight Chargers errors, thanks in part to four blocks. Saint Rose also tallied 11 kills and a .292 hitting percentage.
The Golden Knights play two matches at Roberts Wesleyan this weekend. They meet Bloomfield on Friday at 5:00 pm and then the host Redhawks on Saturday at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, Dominican hosts Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Concordia on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
