The Plot: The College of Saint Rose hosts non-conference foe Dominican College this evening inside the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium to begin the home portion of the 2013 schedule.
Last Meeting (9/27/12): Saint Rose defeated host Dominican 3-0 in non-conference action. Senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano ended the night with 11 kills that helped produce a .474 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks. Junior setters Ariana Wilson and Tori Daniels combined for 26 assists to pace the Saint Rose offense. Junior libero Katy Daniels finished with 15 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Tori Dexter led the Chargers with 11 kills.
Scouting Saint Rose (1-1): The Golden Knights split two matches this past Saturday at the Dowling Tournament, defeating the host Golden Lions 3-1 followed by a 3-2 defeat at the hands of NYIT. Sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Lace totaled 27 kills in the two matches while Tori Daniels posted a total of 44 assists. Katy Daniels went for 27 digs in each match.
Saint Rose enters this season with nine returning letterwinners along with five freshmen. The Golden Knights finished fifth last season in the Northeast-10 Conference standings and qualified for the NE-10 Championships for the second straight year. Gagliano was named an All-Conference second-team selection while Lace earned a spot on both the third-team and All-Rookie squad.
Scouting Dominican (0-2): The Chargers fell 3-0 in consecutive matches to Saint Anselm and host Assumption on Saturday. in Worcester, MA Freshman outside hitter McKenzie John totaled 29 kills and 26 digs while freshman libero Angela Kim recorded 23 digs throughout the day. Dominican returns three letterwinners from a year ago as the team features 10 newcomers. The squad also highlights a trio of sisters as freshman setter Kera Dexter joins sisters Tori and junior middle blocker Kayla. Head coach Daniel Altro is in his first season.
Up Next: The Golden Knights play two matches at Roberts Wesleyan this weekend. They meet Bloomfield on Friday at 5:00 pm and then the host Redhawks on Saturday at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, Dominican hosts Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Concordia on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
