SAINT ROSE WINS AT "UPSTATE CHALLENGE" RIVAL LE MOYNE

Junior setter Tori Daniels finished with a "double-double" during tonight's 3-1 win at "Upstate Challenge" rival Le Moyne.

SYRACUSE, NY-Picking up a crucial point in the year-long Upstate Challenge rivalry series, The College of Saint Rose defeated host Le Moyne 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 12-25, 25-18) earlier tonight during a Northeast-10 Conference match.
 
Junior setter Tori Daniels passed out 24 assists and found 12 digs for the Golden Knights (16-3, 8-2 NE-10). Senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano swung for nine kills and had eight blocks (two solo, six assisted) while sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Lace and senior outside hitter Christina Strezenec each posted 11 kills. Saint Rose also accumulated 17.0 blocks.  
 
Junior setter Megan Maisonet paced the Dolphins (9-12/3-6 NE-10) with 32 assists, 13 digs, and two kills. Senior outside hitter Madison Snow notched a match-high 12 kills along with two blocks (one solo, one assisted).
 
The Golden Knights continuously built their lead throughout the first set as freshman middle hitter Maryellen Devic totaled four kills and junior libero Katy Daniels posted 10 digs. Gagliano and senior right side hitter Emily Felter ended the set with a block, one of six for Saint Rose.
 
Strezenec and Lace each accounted for five kills in the second game that helped put Saint Rose up 2-0. Each team attacked well in the set, as the Golden Knights totaled 16 kills on a .316 hitting percentage while Le Moyne finished with 14 kills behind a .235 hitting percentage.
 
The Dolphins jumped out early in the third set and then went on a 10-0 run to build a 19-5 advantage. Freshman Andrea Buchanan finished with five kills for Le Moyne.
 
A 5-0 spurt for the Golden Knights in the fourth set helped create 19-14 spread that was large enough to hold for the win. Gagliano went 5-for-5 on her swings while Tori Daniels passed out seven assists.
 
Each squad begins the first of back-to-back days of action on the road with matches this Friday. Saint Rose is at Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, NH for an 8:00 pm start while Le Moyne is at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH for a 7:00 pm date.
 
Saint Rose now holds a 4.0-2.0 advantage in the 2013-14 Upstate Challenge Standings versus Le Moyne. Including tonight's win, the Golden Knights have also scored points in women's soccer and men's and women's cross country. The Dolphins earned points in men's soccer and men's golf.
