SAINT ROSE STORMS BACK TO UPEND BENTLEY

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose came back from an 8-3 deficit in the fifth and deciding set to upend Bentley 3-2 (25-15, 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 20-18) in a key Northeast-10 Conference match tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (18-4/10-3 NE-10) and Falcons (16-9/10-3 NE-3) are now tied for second place in the league with one regular-season match remaining before the NE-10 Championship gets underway next Tuesday, November 19.

The final set featured six additional ties following a 7-2 Golden Knights run that made it a 10-10 affair. Saint Rose subsequently held one point leads at 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18; before freshman setter Erica Ziskin and sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Lace put away back-to-back kills to finally draw a conclusion to the match that took 2:02 to complete.

Senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano recorded a staggering .405 hitting percentage behind a match-high 16 kills with one error throughout 37 swings to pace the Golden Knights offense. Sophomore right side hitter Carissa Dube also hit efficiently behind a .346 attack percentage thanks to 12 kills and a mere three errors in 26 attempts.

Lace added 10 kills while junior setters Tori Daniels and Ariana Wilson passed out 22 and 17 assists respectively. Daniels also came up with 11 digs. Her sister, junior defensive specialist Katy Daniels, contributed a match high 22 digs.

For Bentley, sophomore outside hitter Jaci Buscher had 11 kills and 16 digs. Junior setter Alex Tator distributed 52 assists while junior middle hitter Savannah Dominguez registered a .448 hitting percentage via 15 kills and two errors over 29 swings.

The Golden Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the way to a 25-15 win in the opener. Bentley bounced back by taking the second and third sets by identical 25-21 scores. Saint Rose then opened up a 7-6 lead in the fourth, before scoring 14 of the set's next 21 points to boost its cushion to 21-13 that preceded an eventual 25-18 win that set the stage for a thrilling finale.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will close out the regular-season portion of their schedule tomorrow when they entertain Stonehill at 1:00 pm for "Senior Day". Meanwhile, the Falcons continue their trek west up the Thruway for a 1:00 pm meeting at Le Moyne tomorrow.
