SAINT ROSE SWEEPS ADELPHI TO CONTINUE STREAK

Saint Rose defeated Adelphi 3-0 earlier today as junior libero Katy Daniels tallied 20 digs.

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose has now won nine in a row and 10 of its first 11 matches after a 3-0 (29-27, 25-20, 25-20) sweep of Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi earlier today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
 
Junior libero Katy Daniels notched 20 digs to help the Golden Knights (10-1/2-0 NE-10) rack up 56 as a team. Six individuals registered at least four kills for Saint Rose, led by eight on the part of senior outside hitter Christina Strezenec. Senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano, sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Lace and freshman middle hitter Maryellen Devic all added seven kills each. Devic also totaled three service aces.
 
Eleven service aces helped Adelphi's (7-7/0-1 NE-10) attack while junior middle blocker Kaitlyn DeStefano connected for a match-high 10 kills. Freshman libero Sierra Cook tallied 18 digs with senior setter Katie Bryson adding 14 assists, three kills, three digs, and two service aces.
 
A tight game throughout the first set as neither team surrendered more than two points in a row during the final stages until Saint Rose broke through for back-to-back points to earn a 29-27 victory. Strezenec accountedfor the final point with a service ace while Daniels made nine digs.
 
Falling behind 8-5 in the second game, the Golden Knights rallied for nine unanswered points to claim a 14-8 advantage. The Panthers reversed the rally to come within one point twice at 20-19 and 21-20. However, Saint Rose scored the final four points of the set. Strezenec recorded a .400 hitting percentage on five kills while junior setters Ariana Wilson and Tori Daniels combined for 10 of the team's 13 assists.
 
The Golden Knights looked to cruise through the third game with an early 11-2 lead thanks to eight straight points with Devic serving. Adelphi stormed back though and tied the set at 17, before the Golden Knights closed it out with an 8-3 run. Wilson and Katy Daniels came up with six digs apiece while the team totaled five blocks, four from Gagliano who also had three kills.
 
Both squads are slated for 7:00 pm conference matches Tuesday evening. Saint Rose travels to New Haven, CT to face Southern Connecticut State while Adelphi hosts Assumption in Garden City, NY.
