MERRIMACK UPENDS THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS

The Golden Knights fell in four sets at Merrimack earlier today.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA-Host Merrimack won the first two sets on the way to a 3-1 (21-25, 23-25, 25-15, and 17-25) victory against The College of Saint Rose earlier today during Northeast-10 Conference action.
 
Junior setter Tori Daniels passed out 21 assists (13-3/5-2 NE-10) while freshman middle hitter Maryellen Devic swung for 12 kills on a .556 hitting percentage as well as five blocks (one solo, four assist). The Golden Knights (13-2/5-2 NE-10) notched 13.0 blocks and seven service aces.
 
Junior outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan accumulated a match-high 21 kills in addition to 11 digs and three blocks for the Warriors (10-11/5-3 NE-10). Freshman setter Tara Stuhr handed out 45 assists while senior outside hitter Jackie Jones posted 14 kills.
 
Sheehan started quickly with seven kills in the first game that equaled half of the team's production throughout the set. Senior outside hitter Christina Strezenec added two kills and four digs for Saint Rose.
 
A 7-1 run in the middle of the second game helped Merrimack hold off the Golden Knights who came within a point at 23-22 before falling 25-23. Sheehan again totaled seven kills while Stuhr passed out 12 assists. Devic and senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano posted three kills each for Saint Rose.
 
Saint Rose recorded a .344 hitting percentage to earn its lone set victory in the third game. Strezenec led the charge with four kills while Gagliano and Devic added three each. Jones rallied four kills for the Warriors.
 
Jones and Sheehan kept the attack rolling for Merrimack in the fourth set with five kills each that sparked eight unanswered points late in the game. The Warriors posted 16 kills on a .263 hitting percentage to pull out the victory.
 
Saint Rose looks to rebound this Friday with a 7:00 pm home match versus conference foe Saint Anselm. Meanwhile, Merrimack welcomes Stonehill Tuesday for a 7:00 pm meeting.
