SAINT ROSE STREAK ENDS IN SETBACK TO NEW HAVEN

Junior setter Tori Daniels finished with 19 assists and nine digs in tonight's 3-1 setback to New Haven.

HIGHLIGHTS

ALBANY-A 12-match winning streak for The College of Saint Rose was halted this evening 3-1 (20-25, 29-27, 18-25, 22-25) at the hands of visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
 
Junior setters Ariana Wilson and Tori Daniels each helped the offense and defense for the Golden Knights (13-2/5-1 NE-10). Wilson posted a "double-double" of 15 assists and 10 digs while Tori Daniels added a team-high 19 assists and nine digs. Junior libero Katy Daniels finished with 26 digs.
 
New Haven (14-4/6-0 NE-10) was benefitted by 10.0 blocks that held Saint Rose to a .038 hitting percentage. Junior setter Kaulana Ane led the Chargers with 32 assists, 15 digs, and six kills. Senior middle hitter Amber Cannady added nine kills on a .368 hitting percentage along with six blocks (one solo, five assisted).
 
The Chargers rallied from down 17-14 in the first game to finish on an 11-3 run. Katy Daniels ended up with nine digs, but the New Haven offense accumulated 13 kills on a .205 hitting percentage. In contrast, the Golden Knights finished at a -.025 percentage.
 
An assisted block by senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano and freshman middle hitter Jennifer Gundrum and a kill by Christina Strezenec in consecutive points closed out a back-and-forth second set. The Golden Knights also forced 12 attacking errors that included four blocks.
 
New Haven put together a 15-4 run in the third game to close out the set. Saint Rose accumulated 11 attacking errors for a -.054 hitting percentage while the Chargers added three service aces and a like number of blocks.
 
Despite 15 kills, Saint Rose was unable to rally in the fourth set as 11 attacking errors were once again the downfall. Cannady contributed three blocks (one solo, two assisted) in the game.
 
Up next, Saint Rose travels to Merrimack Saturday for a 5:00 pm league contest in North Andover, MA. Meanwhile, New Haven hosts Dowling on Thursday at 7:00 pm for a non-conference match in West Haven, CT.
