Box Score SPRINGFIELD, MA – Marking the fourth sweep of the season, The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team came away with a 3-0 (27-25, 27-25, 25-18) victory at American International College earlier this evening during
Northeast-10 Conference action at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
The host Yellow Jackets (7-7/2-1 NE-10) jumped out to the largest lead of the first set at 12-9 before the Golden Knights (8-4/1-1 NE-10) continued to battle as each team went point for point for most of the set. As the score reached 25 points apiece, freshman outside hitter
Kelsey Lace quickly ended matters with a kill followed by a service ace that clinched the first set for Saint Rose. Lace and junior middle hitter
Alex Gagliano shared the team-high of four kills after one game.
Play in the second set almost followed exactly the same pattern as the first, however, this time it was Saint Rose who jumped out to the largest lead during the game. A kill by Gagliano pushed the lead to 18-14 before American International strung together a 9-6 run that yielded a 24-23 advantage for set point. Freshman outside hitter
Carissa Dube forced the set to go into extra points with a kill followed by a 3-1 streak that was highlighted by a service ace from sophomore setter
Tori Daniels. Dube ended the set with a .417 hitting percentage and six kills.
Dube again was the focal point of the attack for Saint Rose, tallying five kills on a .556 hitting percentage to help put the final touches on the sweep. The Golden Knights went up by as many as 10 points during the set, taking advantage of a Yellow Jacket bad pass.
For American International, freshman middle blocker Britt Bryant hit .400 on the strength of 10 kills while freshman libero Franny Sanchez added 18 digs in the effort.
Dube finished with a .444 hitting percentage behind a match high 13 kills for the Golden Knights who have won three of their last four. Meanwhile, Lace and Gagliano each reached double-figures with 10 kills apiece. Gagliano recorded a .421 hitting percentage to go with two block solos and a pair of block assists. Sophomore setter
Ariana Wilson led the team with 22 assists and shared the team-high of 11 digs along with sophomore libero
Katy Daniels.
Up next, Saint Rose travels to Long Island for a non-conference match at LIU Post this Saturday. The first set is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm. Meanwhile, American International is also scheduled to travel to Long Island for its next match. The Yellow Jackets will face NYIT for a non-league encounter on Friday at 6:00 pm.
