The Plot: The College of Saint Rose hosts
Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University this evening inside Nolan Gymnasium. The match marks the conference opener for Saint Rose.
Last Meeting (9/17/11): The Golden Knights came away with a 3-2 (18-25, 16-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-10) road victory over the Owls after trailing 2-0 in the match. Sarah Kahrs helped fuel the comeback with 16 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore libero Katy Daniels controlled the back line with 23 digs. The Owls tallied 15 service aces in the effort.
Scouting Saint Rose (7-3/0-0 NE-10): The Golden Knights have earned two straight sweep victories. The first was on Saturday against Saint Anselm, followed by at Dominican on Monday. Junior middle hitter Alex Gagliano entered this week second in the nation with a .461 hitting percentage. She is second on the team with 2.81 kills per-set behind freshman outside hitter Kelsey Lace who is averaging 2.92 kills.
Scouting Southern Connecticut State (12-1/1-0 NE-10): The Owls are riding an 11-match win-streak, including five 3-0 victories. They owned the nation's sixth best winning percentage (.916) entering this week. Junior outside hitter Sarah Beres leads the Owls and is fourth in the NE-10 behind 3.30 kills per-set. Senior setter Kimberly Lachowicz paces the offense with 10.0 assists per-set.
Up Next: Saint Rose goes on the road to Springfield, MA to continue NE-10 play at American International on Tuesday. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut State takes part in a tri-match at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. The Owls face Caldwell at 1:00 pm and then meet the host Devils at 3:00 pm.
