Box Score ORANGEBURG, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team scored its second straight sweep after defeating host Dominican earlier this evening 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) in non-conference action.
During the first set, the Golden Knights (7-3) used two different 4-0 runs to push a lead to as many 10 points at 20-10. The advantage proved to be of importance as the Chargers (6-7) mounted a run to reduce the lead to six points for Saint Rose at 23-19. Junior outside hitter
Christina Strezenec managed to close out the set with one of her three kills to earn the final point. Strezenec came away with a .429 hitting percentage in the first set along with three of the team's five services aces.
In the second set, Saint Rose grew a lead to as large as seven at 19-12 before Dominican went on a run of its own to tie at 20-20. After another tie at 21 points a side, the Golden Knights scored the last four points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Strezenec and junior middle hitter
Alex Gagliano led with four kills each in the set while sophomore libero
Katy Daniels came up with seven digs on the defensive end.
The third set was more of the same in terms of momentum as Saint Rose jumped out to a 12-5 lead with Dominican fighting back to gain a 12-12 tie. A combination of attacking errors on the part of the Chargers along with the efficient attacking of Gagliano and her teammates allowed the Golden Knights to close out the set and complete the sweep.
Gagliano ended the night with 11 kills that helped produce a .474 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks solos. Sophomore setters
Ariana Wilson and
Tori Daniels combined for 26 assists to pace the Saint Rose offense. Katy Daniels ended up with 15 digs from the libero position.
Saint Rose commences
Northeast-10 Conference play this Thursday as Southern Connecticut State travels to Albany for a 7:00 pm start at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Meanwhile, Dominican continues its six-match homestand with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Nyack visiting on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
