ALBANY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team was defeated by New York Institute of Technology earlier this evening by the final score of 3-0 (21-25, 20-25, 14-25) inside Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The match marked the 2012 home-opener for the Golden Knights.
Both teams started off going back and forth in the first set, not allowing the momentum to shift either way. However, NYIT (5-1) went on a 10-6 run to close out the opening set after a 15-15 tie. The Bears took advantage of errors on the part of Saint Rose (5-3) as well as efficient hitting. As a group, NYIT had a .371 hitting percentage spear headed by six kills on the part of Savannah Donarski to capture the opening game.
The Bears were on the attack again during the second set, jumping out to an early 9-3 advantage. The Golden Knights managed to fight back behind freshman outside hitter
Carissa Dube's four kills and .429 hitting percentage. NYIT haulted any rally on the part of Saint Rose by scoring the final three of four points scored in the set that included Katarina Sretenovic coming up with a block assists and a kill.
With sophomore setter
Tori Daniels serving to start out the third set, the Golden Knights jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before NYIT rallied back to eventually tie and grow its lead. After the score was tied a nine points a side, the Bears ended the set on a 16-5 run to close out the set and match. Donarski and Shelby Cable shared the team-high with four kills apiece.
Cable finished with 11 kills to lead all participants on a .435 hitting percentage. Marija Jovanovic paced the offense with 22 assists to go along with seven digs on defense.

Katy Daniels collected a match-high 14 digs to anchor the back line.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose quickly regroups to face Saint Anselm tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm as the Hawks travel to Albany, NY. Meanwhile, NYIT returns home on Tuesday for its conference-opener against LIU Post at 7:00 pm.
