Box Score

ALBANY – After reeling off seven straight match victories, The College of Saint Rose had its win streak abruptly ended by Northeast-10 Conference rival the University of Massachusetts Lowell 3-1 (22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 13-25) earlier tonight inside Nolan Gymnasium.

Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Lace led all attackers behind 18 kills on a .256 hitting percentage to go along with three of the Golden Knights (16-9/9-5 NE-10) eight service aces.  Sophomore setter Tori Daniels dished out 24 assists to lead the team as fellow sophomore setter Ariana Wilson came up with 19.  Wilson also added 12 digs for a “double-double.”

The Riverhawks (11-14/6-9 NE-10) had three student-athletes reach double-figure kills, as sophomore middle hitter Anisa Smith connected for a team-high 14 kills.  Sophomore right side hitter Sierra Brown and junior outside hitter Brooke Peterson shared in the attacking with 13 and 11 kills respectively.  Peterson also added 10 digs to the effort.  Junior setter Olivia Parkins was the main distributor as she totaled 43 assists coupled with three service aces.

Smith had half of her night's kills in the first set alone as she helped UMass Lowell generate a comeback and eventually build a big enough lead to hold on for the first game victory.  A 5-0 in the middle of the set highlighted the River Hawk momentum swing, as the team took advantage of three kills as well as three attacking errors by Saint Rose.  Parkins dished out 16 assists to help UMass Lowell achieve a .412 hitting percentage.

Despite four kills by Lace and junior middle hitter Alex Gagliano, the River Hawks found a way to accumulate points at the right time to go up 2-0 in the match after a win in the second set.  Another lengthy run for UMass Lowell benefitted the team's success as a 7-0 to make it a 19-16 advantage helped keep the Golden Knights separated enough.

A .833 hitting percentage by Lace in the third set was exactly what Saint Rose needed to try and pick up needed set victories.  The freshman notched five kills to help keep the Golden Knights involved in the match.  Senior outside hitter Kayleigh Quinn contributed four kills, including the game-winner, on a .800 hitting percentage as Tori Daniels and Wilson passed out seven and six assists respectively in the game.

Four kills by Brown for UMass Lowell and a hitting percentage of -.028 by Saint Rose were the ingredients for the River Hawks to close out the fourth set and match.  The Golden Knights were forced to make 10 attacking errors on top of three service errors while the steady offense of UMass Lowell spurred victory.

The regular season concludes for the Golden Knights tomorrow afternoon when they host Merrimack at 12:00 pm.  Meanwhile, this evening's match marked the season-finale for the River Hawks.
