The Plot: The College of Saint Rose hosts
Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption College this evening inside the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Last Meeting (11/3/11): Sarah Kahrs had 13 kills and a .324 hitting percentage to help propel Saint Rose to a 3-0 victory at Assumption. Sophomore setters Ariana Wilson and Tori Daniels recorded 19 and 16 assists respectively. Junior middle hitter Alex Gagliano totaled four blocks to keep the Greyhound attack in check. Junior outside hitter Mary Johnston tallied 10 kills to lead Assumption.
Scouting Saint Rose (15-8/8-4 NE-10): The Golden Knights have won 18 of 23 games throughout their current six match win streak. Gagliano's .382 hitting percentage ranks her second in the Northeast-10 Conference. She is also sixth in the league with 1.01 blocks per-set. Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Lace remains the team's top attacker at 3.05 kills per-set, the eighth best average in the NE-10. As a group, Saint Rose is fourth in the conference behind 12.45 kills per-set. Sophomore libero Katy Daniels' 4.89 digs average places her third among the NE-10 leaders. In the first released regional rankings of the season, Saint Rose came in at number five last week.
Scouting Assumption (10-17/4-8 NE-10): The Greyhounds have dropped seven of their last eight matches after enjoying a brief three-match win streak. A victory that started that streak was an impressive 3-1 win at fourth place Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday, September 25. Three juniors are the focal point of the Assumption attack. Middle hitter Ryan Merle leads the trio behind 2.48 kills per-set, followed by outside hitter Lauren Ostafins' 2.42 average and Johnston's 2.36. Ostafin is also tied with sophomore outside hitter Ann Donahue with a team-leading 34 service aces.
Up Next: Saint Rose winds down the regular season at home with two matches this weekend. The first is a 7:00 pm Friday tilt against UMass Lowell followed by Saturday's 12:00 pm match versus Merrimack. Meanwhile, Assumption quickly returns to action tomorrow to host Le Moyne at 7:00 pm. This match was previously scheduled for Tuesday, October 30; but was rescheduled due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the region.
