Junior outside hitter Christina Strezenec recorded 15 kills to help lead Saint Rose to a 3-0 victory versus Assumption tonight.
Box Score

ALBANY – Posting an overall hitting percentage of .386 on the night, The College of Saint Rose upended Assumption 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-18) earlier this evening for a Northeast-10 Conference win.

Coming off being named NE-10 Player of the Week, junior outside hitter Christina Strezenec started this week right where she left off with a 15 kill performance on a .323 hitting percentage to lead the Golden Knights (16-8/9-4 NE-10).  Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Lace notched a .438 hitting percentage on the strength of 10 kills while sophomore setter Tori Daniels had a match-high of 24 assists.  Senior middle hitter Kaitlyn Jasnica totaled four blocks.

Junior middle hitter Ryan Merle had six kills to lead a balanced offense for the Greyhounds (10-18/4-9 NE-10).  Junior setter Kristin Flatekval dished out 16 assists while junior libero Jess Reimers came up with 12 digs.

Falling to a one point deficit at 17-16, the Golden Knights rattled off nine straight points to claim the first game victory as Tori Daniels was at the serve to earn two service aces in the stretch.  She also passed out nine assists in the game.  Strezenec got her night rolling right away in that first set, putting down seven kills.  And despite a .375 hitting percentage from Assumption, the .452 accomplished by Saint Rose was enough to secure the set.

Saint Rose afforded itself an early lead in the second set to hold off a Greyhounds rally in the early stages. Again, a run at the end of the set helped spur the victory. The Golden Knights scored eight of the final 10 points as freshman outside hitter Carissa Dube accounted for the game's last two points with a pair of kills.  Dube and Strezenec totaled four kills while Lace had a set-high six.  Tori Daniels and fellow sophomore setter Ariana Wilson split the setting duties with eight and seven assists respectively.

Falling behind by as many as four points in the early portion of game three, Saint Rose used tiny runs throughout the first half to gain a lead.  Four service aces helped engineer the advantage. Sophomore libero Katy Daniels registered match point with an ace while Wilson added two more.

Saint Rose winds down the regular season with a pair of home matches this weekend.  The first is a 7:00 pm Friday tilt against UMass Lowell followed by Saturday's 12:00 pm match versus Merrimack.  Meanwhile, Assumption quickly returns to action tomorrow to host Le Moyne at 7:00 pm.  The match was previously scheduled for Tuesday, October 30; but was rescheduled due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the region.
