MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose has now rattled off five straight match victories after tonight's 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) win at Saint Anselm College in
Northeast-10 Conference action. In those three matches, the Golden Knights have won by a combined score of 15-5 in set victories.
Senior outside hitter
Kayleigh Quinn shined in tonight's win for Saint Rose (14-8/7-4 NE-10), tallying a season-highs of 11 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore libero
Katy Daniels controlled a match-high 18 digs and four service aces. Falling one kill short of a “double-double,” junior outside hitter
Christina Strezenec added nine kills and 12 digs to the effort.
For the Hawks (8-13/4-7 NE-10), three sophomores were highlighted in the stat sheet as outside hitter Shannon Douglas led the team on eight kills, setter Natalie Steinwart added 14 assists, and libero Melissa Jewett finished with 12 digs.
Facing a two-point deficit in the middle of the first, Saint Rose went on an 8-0 run to build a lead of 22-16. Sophomore setter
Tori Daniels then set up Quinn for the set's final point to put the Golden Knights up 1-0 in the match. Quinn and junior middle hitter
Alex Gagliano each put down three kills in the game.
The Hawks jumped out early in the second game, creating a 5-1 advantage. However, Saint Rose again went on a long run to reverse the disadvantage and build a substantial lead with another 8-0 run. Saint Anselm came within two points at 18-16, but the Golden Knight attack was too much to overcome. Quinn and Douglas tied for the set-high of four kills Daniels came up with eight digs.
An 11-3 lead to start the third set benefitted Saint Rose as the team squad looked to close out the match in just three games. The Hawks were able to cut into the lead again, bringing this set to one point 16-15. The Golden Knights then went on to score the final nine of 12 points in the set to claim a victory. Strezenec came up with five of Saint Rose's 13 kills in the set as sophomore setter
Ariana Wilson passed out 10 of her 20 assists during the game.
