The Plot: The College of Saint Rose hosts
Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack College this afternoon inside the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Last Meeting (11/5/12): After 14 kills and a .667 hitting percentage in the first, Saint Rose did not turn back en route to a 3-0 win at Merrimack in North Andover, MA. Sarah Kahrs had a match-high 11 kills and five service aces while junior middle hitter Alex Gagliano hit .667 percent for her eight kills. Sophomore setter Ariana Wilson dished out 19 assists to go along with seven digs and three kills. Senior setter Brianna Trabucco handled a match-high 23 assists to pace the Warriors.
Scouting Saint Rose (16-9/9-5 NE-10): The Golden Knights look to rebound after a tough 3-1 loss to UMass Lowell last night despite 18 kills from freshman outside hitter Kelsey Lace. Saint Rose was once again the fifth ranked team in the NCAA East Region poll this week. Junior outside hitter Christina Strezenec was named the NE-10 Player of the Week on Tuesday when she then followed that up with a 15 kill performance during a 3-0 victory against Assumption that extended a winning streak for Saint Rose to seven. Coming into last night, sophomore libero Katy Daniels stood third in the NE-10 with a 4.86 dig average while Lace was leading the team with 3.10 kills per set. Gagliano came into the week 15th in the nation and second in the league behind a .386 hitting percentage.
Scouting Merrimack (10-19/2-12 NE-10): In the middle of the season's schedule, the Warriors enjoyed a streak of winning seven of 10 matches before losing seven in a row. Their most recent victory came in a 3-2 triumph against visiting Assumption on Saturday, November 3. Sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan has shined behind 3.30 kills per-set, the conference's third best mark entering last night. She has also averaged 2.59 digs per-set, the second best mark on the team. Trabucco is passing out 8.56 assists per-set, the 10th best mark in the NE-10.
Up Next: Today's match concludes the regular-season for both squads. Saint Rose will enter the NE-10 Tournament aiming grab one of the region's eight NCAA Tournament berths.
Senior Day 2012: Prior to the start of today's match, a brief ceremony will be held to honor seniors Kaitlyn Jasnica, Laura Falkowitz, and Kayleigh Quinn. This season will be the third time in four years that Saint Rose has recorded a winning record. It will furthermore mark the squad's second straight NE-10 Tournament apperance after the Golden Knights advanced to last year's championship final. In four seasons, Falkowitz and Quinn have played in 78 and 67 matches respectively while Jasnica has played in 40 during the past two years.
