ALBANY – Helping to go 2-0 for the second weekend in a row, The College of Saint Rose defeated
Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce University 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 16-25, 25-23) earlier this afternoon to extend its win streak to four matches.
Leading a balanced Saint Rose (13-8/6-4 NE-10) attack was freshman outside hitter
Carissa Dube who finished with 12 kills and a .348 hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter
Alex Gagliano played well on both sides of the net for the second straight day, notching nine kills and a .368 hitting percentage on offense while tallying eight total blocks on the defensive side. Junior outside hitter
Christina Strezenec finished two kills shy of a “double-double” behind eight kills and 10 digs. However, sophomore setter
Tori Daniels did finish with a “double-double” after posting 19 assists and 13 digs.
For the Ravens (14-13/7-3 NE-10), junior setter Stephanie Svorinic dished out 20 assists and came up with eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Madison Duffy led the Raven attack on 11 kills.
Despite 4-0 and 3-0 runs by Franklin Pierce in the middle of the first set, Saint Rose controlled the pace throughout to notch the victory. Sophomore setter
Ariana Wilson had six of her match-high 24 assists in the set to go along with four kills on a .800 hitting percentage. Sophomore libero
Katy Daniels brought up eight digs to startle the Raven attack.
A mental mistake at the end of the second set allowed the Golden Knights to pick up the victory as Franklin Pierce was charged with serving out of order, deducting a point for the Ravens and giving Saint Rose the win. Strezenec totaled four kills off of eight assists by Wilson. Gagliano also found both her solo blocks of the match during the set.
Nine attacking errors and three service errors by Saint Rose benefitted the Ravens in a strong third set win. A four kill performance by Duffy was also a factor.
Falling behind by as many as six points early in the fourth set, Saint Rose kept chipping away to finally grab a lead at 18-17 on a block by Gagliano and Strezenec. The teams went toe-to-toe throughout the game's final points before Dube landed a powerful finishing kill off a Wilson pass.
The Golden will play their third straight Friday-Saturday doubleheader next weekend when they travel to Manchester, NH to meet Saint Anselm on Friday at 7:30 pm and then head to Colchester, VT for Saturday's 1:00 pm date at Saint Michael's. Franklin Pierce also visits Saint Anselm this upcoming week, with a 7:30 pm encounter set for Tuesday.
