Yafayev recorded three NCAA Provisional Qualifying standards, captured two individual events and was part of a winning relay squad to lead the Golden Knights to a second place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. Yafayev swept the 200 and 400-yard individual medley and was also the runner-up in the 200 butterfly. He took the 200 IM in 1:53.18 and swam a meet record time of 4:01.34 in the 400 IM. Yafayev also went 1:55.07 in the 200 butterfly. He was part of the 800 free relay quartet that hit the wall first behind a school record time of 7:00.72, swam the lead leg on the 200 medley relay squad that finished third with yet another school mark (1:37.05) and anchored the 200 free relay contingent that touched third in 1:27.46.
