Tony Kurucz was named Interim Head Coach of The College of Saint Rose softball program in August 2023 after joining the staff as an assistant prior to the 2022-23 season.
Kurucz comes to Saint Rose after previously serving as the Softball Recruiting Coordinator/Data Analyst at Herkimer County Community College, a role he held since March of 2016. While on staff with the Generals, Kurucz also oversaw team defensive skills responsibilities beginning in 2018.
In his first two full seasons as Herkimer’s Defensive Skills Coach, the team committed a mere 0.826 errors per game, surrendered only .543 unearned runs per game, and recorded a fielding percentage of .968.
During that period of time, the Generals went 92-13 overall, while collecting two straight Conference and Regional titles. HCCC also reached the NJCAA Division III National Championships two times, where the team earned two national runner-up finishes.
In 2019, Kurucz was recognized as an Easton/National Fastpitch Coach’s Association (NFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year for serving as the program’s defensive coordinator, first base coach and lead recruiter. In addition to his coaching responsibilities with Herkimer, Kurucz served as a College Coach Evaluator for College Sports Evaluation, LLC and as an Assistant Coach for the Dutchess Deb’s Travel Softball Program.
Prior to Herkimer, Kurucz spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Onondaga Community College, where he focused on team defense, student-athlete recruitment, and team fundraising.
Kurucz has also coached at Cazenovia High School, where he managed the junior varsity and varsity softball teams for eight seasons. Additionally, Kurucz has held head coaching and program administration responsibilities for several local travel softball programs over the last 11 years.
Kurucz graduated from Marlboro High School in 1984. He has a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York in Math and Science, and is employed by Regal Rexnord as a RBS / Continuous Improvement Facilitator. Kurucz resides in Cazenovia, N.Y. with his wife Barbara. He is also the proud father of two children, Meaghan and Nick.
