Sarah Mayer took the reigns as head coach of The College of Saint Rose women’s tennis team in 2009 and thus enters her second season at the helm of the Golden Knights. Mayer had a standout career at nearby Siena College where she garnered 2009 MAAC Co-Player of the Year honors. 

Mayer closed out her final campaign with the Saints by recording an 11-4 singles mark in dual matches, including a 6-1 slate against league opponents. She was furthermore a second-team All-MAAC pick at first doubles. Mayer, who was also chosen as the MAAC Player of the Year in 2006 and 2008, played at the top singles position throughout her career at Siena. She graduated as the school’s all-time leader in singles victories and served as team captain throughout her final two seasons. 

Mayer played her high school tennis at nearby Shaker and led the Bison to the section II class “A” championship. She is the former section II singles champion and also made an appearance in the semifinals of the New York State Tournament. Mayer was ranked as high as 10th in the final 2004 USTA Eastern poll and produced a gold medal at the Empire State Games. 

Aside from her experience as a collegiate player, Mayer has made three appearances in various professional tournaments. She has also been the Director of Business Affairs and Assistant Tennis Professional at the Edison Club since the summer of 2002. 

Mayer, who earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Siena this past spring, has also done numerous community service and volunteer activities. She was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) throughout her final three years and attended the Student Leadership Conference on three occasions. Additionally, Mayer has been involved with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House and St. Casmir’s Children.
