Kevin Walsh (’15, Gr. ‘17) has returned to his alma mater to direct The College of Saint Rose Swimming and Diving program, which he represented as a four-year student-athlete before serving as an assistant coach this past season. He officially took over the program in March of 2022.
“Kevin is a Golden Knight through and through, and I am thrilled his path has taken him full circle to lead our Saint Rose Swimming and Diving program. He is a man of tremendous character with a passion for impacting the lives of the student-athletes he coaches. Kevin exudes positivity. That, along with his enthusiasm and competitive excellence, will undoubtedly build a winning culture in and out of the pool for our Golden Knights,” said Lori Anctil, Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, at the time of his appointment.
“I'm excited to be a part of the Saint Rose swimming and diving program as the head coach. This past season was the first time I worked with the team and it's evident they are a group of extraordinary people. Each and every one of them proved themselves at the most recent Northeast-10 Conference Championship Meet. It was inspiring to see them come together and get many best times, team records, and medals,” said Walsh. “I can't wait to raise that bar even higher and help them continue to reach their goals. I'm thrilled to be a part of the swim program again and look forward to further developing this team.”
Walsh, who was a member of the 2011-12 Saint Rose squad that posted the best finish in program annals with a third place performance at the NE10 Championships, began his coaching career at the Capital District YMCA in East Greenbush, N.Y. where he developed coed teams from ages five to 21-years-old.
He spent this past season as an assistant coach with the Golden Knights. The men’s program recorded its best showing in eight years with a fourth place finish at the NE10 Championships, while the women’s team registered its best performance in five years with a fifth-place finish at that meet.
Walsh earned a master’s in Adolescence Education (Mathematics) from Saint Rose in 2017 and a bachelor’s in Mathematics in 2015. He previously worked as a ninth through 11th grade Mathematics Teacher at Hoosic Valley Junior Senior High School in Schaghticoke, N.Y. and currently serves as an adjunct professor at Saint Rose.
